Lesson 3 - The Person of Jesus Christ

1. He was Fully Human.

Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, - the devil.

A. He got hungry- Matthew 4:2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

B. He got thirsty- John 19:28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."

C. He got tired- John 4:6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

D. He slept- Matthew 8:24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

E. He showed emotion- Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

F. He wept- John 11:35 Jesus wept.

G. He Was Tempted- Hebrews 2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

2. He was Fully God

Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

A. What Jesus says about Himself.

Revelation 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

John 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" John 10:30 I and the Father are one."

John 14:9 Jesus answered: "...Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father...

B. What others said about Him.

John - John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Paul - Titus 2:13 while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Peter - II Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

Isaiah - Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The Father - Hebrews 1:6 And again, when God brings his first-born into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him."

Hebrews 1:8 But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
